Journey There
What is 5 in the morning? There's a five in morning? Damn it's
cold!
We had to be at the Massey Tunnel
bike shuttle by 9 am and we were in a long way away in Burnaby. Shortly
after sunrise we started cyling down the Adanac Bike route - hilly but light
in traffic. 30 minutes later we turned onto Clark - a heavy thoroughfare
and cycled for the Knight Street bridge. The picture below is Jesse
at the top of the hill just before the Knight Street bridge.
We were at the Massey
Tunnel with minutes to spare - the van showed up on time and we got our free
ride though the tunnel. The shuttle runs every two hours so we had
to make this shuttle to make our 1:30 sailing from Victoria.
Once we were in Delta (flatland)
we really flew. We cycled as a pack past Ladner to the Point Roberts
turnoff and stopped in for some much needed jet fuel at the McDonalds.
Having not had caffeine in the last two months that coke with breakfast had
me wired.
As cyclists we bypass the main
gates (shown below) and cycle up to the passenger building. They never
did check that we had tickets though...
And wait. We
were half an hour an hour early so we hung out under the shadow of a loading
ramp.
Ferry trip to Victoria - how many
times have we done this trip! This was the third trip to Vancouver
Island in the last four weeks (and many of us would go again the following
weekend for Eric's going away party). On deck we unload first, followed
by the large buses next to us.
We had an hour and
a half layover in Victoria - just hanging out. Mark, having woken up
as early as I, got back some much needed sleep.
